Malcolm
We don’t know anything about the first 10 to 12 years of
Malcolm’s life. We wonder where he had lived before we
found him, and why his former family left him alone. What we
do know is that, thanks to the MCSPCA, along with a wonderful
foster home and loving, generous adopters, this senior
dog can now rest assured that he will be loved and taken care
of for the rest of his life.
Malcolm was a sad, elderly Shih Tzu when he was taken in
by the MCSPCA. A thorough examination by our vet found
that he had a number of health issues. Heart problems would
require him to be on medication and followed by a veterinary
cardiologist for the rest of his life. A serious eye condition
would necessitate ongoing visits to a veterinary ophthalmologist.
In addition, poor Malcolm was mostly deaf. Imagine how
frightened he must have been, alone, unable to see or hear
well, and not knowing where he was.
Malcolm was welcomed into one of our volunteer foster
homes, and over the next few months his heart disease was
brought under control, his eyes were tended to, and he was
neutered. Now what he needed was a home of his own!
Valerie and Michael loved Shih Tzus, and applied online to
adopt if we ever had one available. They liked Malcolm and
his mellow nature, but were worried about his ongoing health
conditions and the care he would require. After much consideration,
they decided instead to adopt a lively, 2-year old
Pekingese from us. But they couldn’t get Malcolm out of their
minds or their hearts, and within a week called to say
Malcolm should “pack his bags” because he was coming
home with them too! Appropriately, they adopted him on
Valentine’s Day.
Now Malcolm has the life he deserves, and Valerie and
Michael love him. While he is physically unable to jump up on
the furniture, he does jump all around while they warm his
food in the microwave. He prefers breakfast at 5:30 am, and
barks at the refrigerator if he isn’t fed promptly!
If you can’t attend our Dog Walk, please consider
sponsoring
Malcolm. He will be there to represent all homeless
animals, but especially those who are older and hope to live
out the remainder of their lives in dignity, with the medical
care they require and most importantly, surrounded by love. It
may be difficult for him to complete the entire 1.5 mile Dog
Walk, but if he can’t, naturally Valerie and Michael will carry
him across the finish line.
